Celebrity News: Rihanna Became First Black Woman To Front British Vogue
The singer is the face of the British Vogue September issue, and what a face it is – adorned with her own beauty products for the striking image that sees her head up the ‘Big Fashion Issue.’
The issue also features Elton John, Adwoa Aboah and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
The strong images see her wearing a vampy lip and Christine Aguilera circa 2000 eyebrows, with a bold floral arrangement on her head.
She’s used the opportunity as a bit of an advert for her products, wearing her own makeup on her face and her own Savage X Fenty range on her bod.
Proud of the shoot, Rihanna tweeted the cover image, writing: ‘September issue of @britishvogue, styled by @edward_enninful and shot by @nick_knight, on newsstands Friday August 3. Wearing a @prada dress and gloves @savagexfenty lace body. Hair by @yusefhairnyc, make-up by @isamayaffrench using @fentybeauty, floral artistry by @azumamakoto, nails by @jennynails and set design by @tomotattle.’
And even with the questionable eyebrows, the look was a hit.
One fan wrote on Instagram: ‘Ok listen the eyebrows might not be the permanent move but… I’d be lying if I said she didn’t pull it off.’
They’re not wrong.
‘I always knew it had to be Rihanna,’ Edward wrote in his editor’s letter.
‘A fearless music-industry icon and businesswoman, when it comes to that potent mix of fashion and celebrity, nobody does it quite like her.’
It’s new editor-in-chief Edward Enninful’s first September issue, and he was on hand to style the shoot for what’s tipped to be the most important issue of the year – containing 400 pages of fashion.
Across the pond, the US version of the September issue has been completely taken over by Beyonce.
She’s been given creative control as the cover star, and will have the freedom to write captions for the photos from her shoot. Bey has also hired her own photographer, 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell, who will make it the magazine’s first cover shoot to be shot by a black photographer in its 126-year history.
Addressing Tyler’s involvement, a source told Huffington Post: ‘The reason a 23-year-old black photographer is photographing Beyonce for the cover of Vogue is because Beyonce used her power and influence to get him that assignment.’
She has refused an interview though, because she’s Queen Bey and she does what she wants
